  • Very High Energy Gamma-Ray Observations of Strong Flaring Activity in M87 in 2008 February
M87 is the only known nonblazar radio galaxy to emit very high energy (VHE) gamma rays. During a monitoring program of M87, a rapid flare in VHE gamma-rays was detected by the MAGIC telescope in early 2008. The flux was found to be variable above 350 GeV on a timescale as short as 1 day at a significance level of 5.6 σ. The highest measured flux

  • Very Large Telescope Echelle Spectrophotometry of the Planetary Nebula NGC 5307 and Temperature Variations
Echelle spectrophotometry of the planetary nebula NGC 5307 is presented. The data consist of Very Large Telescope Ultraviolet Visual Echelle Spectrograph observations in the 3100-10360 Å range. Electron temperatures and densities have been determined using different line intensity ratios. We determine the H, He, C, and O abundances based on

  • Very Low Mass Stellar and Substellar Companions to Solar-like Stars from MARVELS. II. A Short-period Companion Orbiting an F Star with Evidence of a Stellar Tertiary and Significant Mutual Inclination
We report the discovery via radial velocity (RV) measurements of a short-period (P = 2.430420 ± 0.000006 days) companion to the F-type main-sequence star TYC 2930-00872-1. A long-term trend in the RV data also suggests the presence of a tertiary stellar companion with P > 2000 days. High-resolution spectroscopy of the host star yields T eff = 6427

  • Very Low Mass Stellar and Substellar Companions to Solar-like Stars from MARVELS. IV. A Candidate Brown Dwarf or Low-mass Stellar Companion to HIP 67526
We report the discovery of a candidate brown dwarf (BD) or a very low mass stellar companion (MARVELS-5b) to the star HIP 67526 from the Multi-object Apache point observatory Radial Velocity Exoplanet Large-area Survey (MARVELS). The radial velocity curve for this object contains 31 epochs spread over 2.5 yr. Our Keplerian fit, using a Markov Chain

  • VGCF detection of galaxy systems (Barrena+, 2005)
We select 4 pointings for the Wide Field Camera (WFC) mounted at the prime focus of the 2.5m Isaac Newton Telescope (INT), located at the Roque de Los Muchachos Observatory, La Palma. We carried out observations from October 12 to October 14, 1999. (1 data file).

  • Virgo cluster and field dwarf ellipticals in 3D - III. Spatially and temporally resolved stellar populations
We present the stellar population analysis of a sample of 12 dwarf elliptical galaxies, observed with the SAURON integral field unit, using the full-spectrum fitting method. We show that star formation histories (SFHs) resolved into two populations can be recovered even within a limited wavelength range, provided that high signal-to-noise ratio (S
