PLATO (PLAnetary Transits and Oscillations of stars)
PLAnetary Transits and Oscillations of stars (PLATO) is the third medium-class mission in ESA's Cosmic Vision programme. Its objective is to find and study a large number of extrasolar planetary systems, with emphasis on the properties of terrestrial planets in the habitable zone around solar-like stars
High-resolution spectrograph for the 10-m Gran Telescopio Canarias (GTC) based on components from UES, a spectrograph which was in use at the 4.2-m William Herschel Telescope (WHT) between 1992 and 2001.
The aim of this project is to create a sodium Laser Guide Star (LGS) using the 1m telescope OGS and a sodium dye laser. LGSs are needed by the Adaptive Optics systems in all the large telescopes, to increase their sky coverage for high spatial resolution science.
