The IAC (Tenerife, Spain) invites applications for SIX Summer Grants in Astrophysics.

(**The third additional provision of the R.D. 463/2020, of March 14, declaring the state of alarm for the management of the health crisis situation caused by COVID-19, modified by R.D. 465/2020 establishes the suspension of terms and interruption of deadlines for the processing of procedures of public sector entities. However, this Directorate agrees, in relation to its fourth section of that Additional Provision as well as for the reasons stated in the mentioned call, the continuation of the procedure in all its phases, including the execution of the incentivized activity)

The research topics pursued at the IAC include most areas of Astrophysics: Solar Physics, Planetary Systems, Stellar and Interstellar Physics, Galaxy Formation and Evolution, and Cosmology and Astroparticle Physics.These are supported by an ambitious instrumentation programme.  The IAC has been selected as a Severo Ochoa Center of Excellencein research by the Spanish Government. The successful candidates will work at the IAC's headquarters in La Laguna, (Tenerife) in a stimulating research environment. They will be expected to join one of the IAC's research groups to start up their formation on Astrophysical Research.

Qualifications: To be considered, applicants must be carrying out an MsC in Astrophysics or a similar one (Physics or Mathematics) at the moment of application.

The qualification obtained in each subject should be presented on a scale of 0-10. If your University uses a different scale then convert your qualification to this scale in each of the subjects studied and indicate the method applied.


The Summer Grants have a monthly stipend of 700 €, plus an amount for travel allowance depending on the host country.

Applicants must go to, and:

1 •        Attach a pdf file with the following documents:

a)         Application Form (Annex I) completed and signed (applications not including this form will be automatically excluded), with the number of finished courses and ECTS as well as the total number of courses for the MsC, accompanied by the Annex II.

b)         Photocopy of the Passport.

c)  Complete Academic Certificate containing:

•           Official Stamp.

•           Date when studies were completed

•           List of subjects studied during the Master and the Degree programme

•           Marks and dates obtained

The qualification obtained in each subject should be presented on a scale of 0-10. If your University uses a different scale then convert your qualification to this scale in each of the subjects studied and indicate the method applied.

In the case of certificates issued by non-Spanish institutions the candidates must specify the maximum and minimum qualifications within the corresponding evaluation system and what mark corresponds to the minimum pass grade.

If the certificate is issued in a language other than Spanish or English, it must be accompanied by its translation into either of these languages.

d)  «Currículum vitae», in which the applicant includes all the previous fellowships, the corresponding results, grants and recognized merits.

e) Documents and certificates proving the merits listed in Annex II and which the applicant wants to have taken into consideration. Any fellowship, contract, course, seminar, conference or merit listed must be supported by an appropriate document in order to be evaluated by the members of the selection committee.

f) Declaration Annex III of this call for applications.

Once you have submitted all the information related to your academic qualifications on-line, it is NOT necessary to submit it also by post or present it personally at the IAC General Register Office.

ALL of the required documentation MUST be presented by the application deadline. Applications submitted after the closing date, as well as those which do not include the mandatory application form (Annex I), will not be taken into consideration. If the application materials are sent by registered post, the envelope must be open when presented the through a Post Office so that Annex III can be dated and stamped by the postal official, prior to sealing and posting. Applications sent with only the date stamped on the envelope will be excluded from the process.
