Angel Ricardo Plastino is a professor in the Department of Basic Sciences at the Universidad Nacional del Noroeste de la Provincia de Buenos Aires (UNNOBA) and obtained his PhD degree in Astronomy in 1994 from the Universidad Nacional de La Plata, both in Argentina.

Prof. Plastino's main research interests focus on multidisciplinary applications of ideas and techniques inspired by information theory, such as the maximum entropy principle.

Prof. Plastino has published more than 200 research papers in peer-reviewed scientific journals on topics related to information physics, quantum entanglement theory, the foundations of quantum mechanics and statistical mechanics, dynamical and mathematical aspects of astronomy, and physics education. Some of his work has achieved considerable impact in the scientific community, for example, one in collaboration with A. L. Plastino (University of La Plata), establishing the connection between non-adiabatic Sq entropies and polytropic distributions in stellar dynamics. This work, which proposed the first application of Sq entropies to the study of a concrete physical system, stimulated several developments in physics and astronomy, which gave rise to active fields of research. Sq entropies are today applied to the study of various astronomical problems. In particular, there is observational evidence that distributions that optimise Sq entropies (polytropic distributions) adequately describe various aspects of galaxy structure.

Research experience in various branches of physics has allowed Prof. Plastino to interact and collaborate with scientists from different areas, establishing connections between them based, in many cases, on ideas coming from information physics. Over the years, Angel Ricardo Plastino has developed a fruitful international scientific collaboration with researchers from several countries, including Brazil, Chile, Spain, the Netherlands, Mexico and South Africa.
