Description
This book is the result of more than a decade of archaeoastronomical research. Juan Antonio Belmonte is coordinator of the Archaeastronomy project at the IAC and Michael Hoskin, professor emeritus of History and Philosophy of Science at the University of Cambridge. Archaeoastronomy is a science that studies the relationship between Astronomy and culture. The authors, who have written on other occasions on this subject, take a journey through time and space throughout the Mediterranean showing those ancient constructions that have an orientation related to Astronomy. In this way we want to establish the relationship between the different cultures that settled on the shore of this sea and their vision and knowledge of the cosmos and astronomical phenomena. Apart from constructions and sculptures, mostly of a religious nature, there are also cave paintings on which some theories of their relationship with the stars are presented. A total of 88 works are presented, each of them with its explanation, bibliography and brief indications of how to get to the place where the construction is located.
