The mayor of La Laguna, Luis Yeray Gutierrez, visited this Wednesday the headquarters of the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (IAC), located in the municipality, where he was accompanied by the director of the center, Rafael Rebolo, on a tour of the facilities in order to learn about the research and technological development work being carried out in this center of scientific excellence.
The mayor stressed the need to maintain close collaboration between the Consistory and the Institute, as a center that generates qualified employment and focuses on scientific and educational dissemination. Furthermore, he was in favour of encouraging a greater number of technology companies to set up in the municipality to contribute to the scientific development of the IAC.
"We host in our municipality a world reference centre in the field of astrophysics and for it to continue maintaining this level of research it is necessary that it has the maximum support of public institutions", said the mayor, who undertook to learn about the work of the Teide Observatory's telescope group in a forthcoming visit.
