Members of the different institutions that make up the International Scientific Committee (CCI) of the Canary Islands Observatories met last Tuesday, 31 October, in the island of La Palma. The meeting was attended by Rafael Rebolo, Director of the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (IAC), and Casiana Múñoz, Deputy Director of the IAC. The CCI is the committee created in the International Agreements that established the Canary Islands Observatories for an effective participation of the User Institutions in the adoption of decisions related to the use and improvement of the observatories.
The CCI working groups shared information on the latest scientific discoveries that have been made at the Canarian observatories, the Observatorio del Teide (OT) and the Observatorio del Roque de los Muchachos (ORM), in Tenerife and La Palma, respectively, as well as projects for future facilities. In particular, the plans for the completion of the Large-Sized Telescope (LST) array and the plans for the deployment of the European Solar Telescope (EST) at the ORM and the steps for the extension of the ASTRI project at the OT were presented. Likewise, through the reports of the Observatory Administrators, the current state of both centres, the services provided by them to the scientific community and the efforts made to better connect the Observatories with the Canary Islands society were inspected.
