Yesterday, 14th July, the astrophysicist Juan Carlos Pérez Arencibia, the manager of the Roque de los Muchachos Observatory, in Garafía (La Palma), was named “Collaborating Member Elect” of the Canarian Royal Academy of Sciences during its meeting which took place at the Salazar Palace in Santa Cruz de La Palma. An international team of scientists from the SDSS- III project, in which the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (IAC ) participates, has developed a three-dimensional map of more than one million galaxies to understand the mysterious properties of dark energy and its effects on the accelerating expansion of the Universe.

The discovery of this triple-bubble, made up of three supernova shells and observed by scientist of the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (IAC), allows to understand the feedback processes in galaxy discs.
