The Ministry of Education and Universities of the Government of the Canary Islands and the IAC, Severo Ochoa Center of Excellence, initiate joint training projects for the promotion of astronomy, enhancing Canary Islands’ sky resources and coinciding with the 30th anniversary of the pioneering Ley del Cielo (that aims to protect sky’s quality).

During the month of February, women researchers of the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (IAC) will take part in lectures, workshops and debates to publicize the work of women in science, and to arouse interest in astronomy, physics, and technology in young girls.

Next Wednesday, January 31st, the Moon will feature with a total eclipse of a “supermoon” which will also be the second full Moon of the month.

At the beginning of last year, the newly released Astrograph STC (Sky Treasure Chest) of the Unit of Communication and Scientific Culture of the Canary Islands Institute of Astrophysics (IAC) captured the Andromeda Galaxy (M31).
