    Description

The detection of the axion would be one of the most important events in the history of science. This hypothetical particle can simultaneously solve two fundamental questions of modern physics: the problem of violation of charge-parity (CP) symmetry in the strong interaction and the mystery of dark matter. The axion couples to photons. The search for the axion at high frequencies - above 6 GHz - is well motivated, but poorly explored due to the lack of a reliable technique to scan wide bands at high frequencies with high sensitivity. The aim of this project is to search for axionic dark matter in the 6-8 GHz broadband with a sensitivity improved by an order of magnitude over the state of the art. To achieve this, a novel prototype detector will be fabricated and tested.
