Description
A broad range of type I post-main-sequence nebulae have been mapped and
studied spectroscopically in the J = 1 - 0, J = 2 - 1, and J = 3 - 2
transitions of CO using the 12-m antenna at Kitt Peak and the 45-m
facility at the Nobeyama Radio Observatory. CO J = 2 - 1 emission
associated with NGC 3132 and NGC 6445 is detected; the location of CO J
= 1 - 0 emission in the nucleus of NGC 6302 is determined, and CO J = 3
- 2 spectroscopy is obtained for the first time for a substantial cross
section of type I sources. The nature of the emission is assessed, and
its correlation with H2S(1) and optical shock indicators and the
underlying processes responsible for the observed trends are discussed.
