Description
The number of globular clusters plays a fundamental role in understanding the early stages of galaxy formation. We know that the GC population of normal galaxies correlates with the amount of dark matter in these objects. Extending this analysis to the number of globulars in very low surface brightness galaxies is therefore key to understanding the extent to which these objects may be galaxies whose growth was thwarted in the early stages of their formation, and which now inhabit larger dark matter halos than expected for their stellar masses. In this contribution, we focus on the controversial galaxy NGC5846-UDG1 (MATLAS-2019), whose number of globular clusters is disputed. Using all available space data (three HST filters) together with ultra-deep u-band imaging from the GTC telescope, we re-analyse the number of globulars in this peculiar galaxy. These data allow us to obtain the best current estimate of the number of GCs in this object. We also analyse the spatial distribution of the GCs and how anomalous it is. We will also present the deepest optical image (limiting surface brightness ~31 mag/arcsec^2) to date of this galaxy and the implications of the structure of this galaxy in the formation of this low surface brightness galaxy.
