Description
We study the structural properties of the low surface brightness stellar
hosts in blue compact galaxies by fitting a two-dimensional
Sérsic law to their optical images. The accurate isolation of the
starburst emission is an important strength of the method. It allows us
to obtain more reliable structural parameters, especially when a
Sérsic law is fitted. Preliminary results on the structural
properties of the host galaxy for a sample of 28 blue compact galaxies
are presented here. Correlations between galaxy and starburst sizes,
luminosities, central surface brightnesses, colors and the Sérsic
index n, as well as with the neutral hydrogen mass and line width,
W20, are studied. Furthermore, we compare the structural
properties of the sample with those of other types of dwarf galaxies in
order to shed some light on possible evolutionary connections.

Starsbursts play a key role in the cosmic evolution of galaxies, and thus in the star formation (SF) history of the universe, the production of metals, and the feedback coupling galaxies with the cosmic web. Extreme SF conditions prevail early on during the formation of the first stars and galaxies, therefore, the starburst phenomenon constitutes a
