  • The CARMENES search for exoplanets around M dwarfs. Two Saturn-mass planets orbiting active stars
The CARMENES radial-velocity survey is currently searching for planets in a sample of 387 M dwarfs. Here we report on two Saturn-mass planets orbiting TYC 2187-512-1 (M * = 0.50 M ⊙) and TZ Ari (M * = 0.15 M ⊙), respectively. We obtained supplementary photometric time series, which we use along with spectroscopic information to determine the

  • Puzzling large-scale polarization in the galaxy cluster Abell 523
Large-scale magnetic fields reveal themselves through diffuse synchrotron sources observed in galaxy clusters such as radio halos. Total intensity filaments of these sources have been observed in polarization as well, but only in three radio halos out of about 100 currently known. In this paper we analyse new polarimetric Very Large Array data of

  • The black hole population in low-mass galaxies in large-scale cosmological simulations
Recent systematic searches for massive black holes (BHs) in local dwarf galaxies led to the discovery of a population of faint active galactic nuclei (AGNs). We investigate the agreement of the BH and AGN populations in the Illustris, TNG, Horizon-AGN, EAGLE, and SIMBA simulations with current observational constraints in low-mass galaxies. We find

  • TOI-2119: a transiting brown dwarf orbiting an active M-dwarf from NASA's TESS mission
We report the discovery of TOI-2119b, a transiting brown dwarf (BD) that orbits and is completely eclipsed by an active M-dwarf star. Using light-curve data from the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite mission and follow-up high-resolution Doppler spectroscopic observations, we find the BD has a radius of R b = 1.08 ± 0.03R J, a mass of M b = 64

  • A metamaterial with applications in broad band antennas used in radio astronomy and satellite communications
Electromagnetic metamaterials at microwave frequencies are well established in industry and research. Recent work has shown how a specific kind of metallic metamaterial can contribute towards improving the performance of the feedhorn antennas used in radio astronomy and satellite telecommunications. In this article, we discuss an innovative type of
