  • Optical spectroscopy of isolated planetary mass objects in the σ Orionis cluster
We have obtained low resolution optical spectra of 15 isolated planetary mass objects (IPMOs) in the sigma Orionis cluster, and derived spectral types by comparison with nearby M and L dwarfs. The spectral types are in the range late M - mid L, in agreement with our expectations based on colors and magnitudes for bona fide members. Therefore, most

  • Optical synchrotron emission and particle acceleration in radio hot spots
We discuss, in terms of particle acceleration, the results from optical observations with ESO's Very Large Telescope aimed at the detection of the optical counterparts of radio hot spots. To select the targets, we adopted criteria based on theoretical expectations and obtained an unprecedented 70% detection rate. Our results strongly suggest that

  • Origin Of The Near-earth Asteroid Phaethon And The Geminids Meteor Shower
Asteroid (3200) Phaethon is a remarkable Near Earth Asteroid (NEA). It was the first asteroid associated with a meteor shower, namely the Geminid stream1. Phaethon's unusual orbit has a high inclination and a very low perihelion distance (0.14 AU). Its reflectance spectrum suggests a connection with primitive meteorites, best fitting with CI/CM

  • OSIRIS Multi-Object Spectroscopy: Mask Design Process
The OSIRIS (Optical System for Imaging and Low-Intermediate Resolution Integrated Spectroscopy) instrument at the 10.4 m GTC has offered a multi-object spectroscopic mode since March 2014. In this paper we describe the detailed process of designing a MOS mask for OSIRIS by using the Mask Designer Tool, and give some numbers on the accuracy of the
