  • Limits to the planet candidate GJ 436c
We report on H-band, ground-based observations of a transit of the hot Neptune GJ 436b. Once combined to achieve sampling equivalent to archived observations taken with Spitzer, our measurements reach comparable precision levels. We analyze both sets of observations in a consistent way, and measure the rate of orbital inclination change to be of 0

  • Linear polarization of rapidly rotating ultracool dwarfs
Aims: We aim to study the near-infrared linear polarization signal of rapidly rotating ultracool dwarfs with spectral types ranging from M7 through T2 and projected rotational velocities of v sin i ≳ 30 km s-1. These dwarfs are believed to have dusty atmospheres and oblate shapes, which is an appropriate scenario to produce measurable linear

  • LIRIS (long-slit intermediate-resolution infrared spectrograph): project status
LIRIS is a near-IR intermediate resolution spectrograph with added capabilities for multi-object, imaging, coronography, and polarimetry. This instrument is now being constructed at the IAC, and upon complexion will be installed on the 4.2m William Herschel Telescope at the Observatorio del Roque de Los Muchachos. The optical system uses lenses and

  • LIRIS: a long-slit intermediate-resolution infrared spectrograph for the WHT
The Instituto de Astrofisica de Canarias (IAC) is undertaking the design and construction of a common-user near IR spectrograph (LIRIS) for the Cassegrain focus of the 4.2 m William Herschel Telescope sited at the Observatorio del Roque de Los Muchachos. LIRIS will be a near IR intermediate-resolution spectrograph designed to operate over a

  • Lithium and rotation in the Hyades late F and G stars
Selecting stars with previously measured or estimated rotational periods we have measured equivalent widths of the Li doublet (6708 A) in 8 stars of the Hyades late main sequence and, combining our data with literature values, derive a homogeneous set of Li abundances. The graph of Li against period is monotonic, taking, not surprisingly, a similar
