  • Radio Spectra and Star Formation Histories in H II Galaxies
A sample of actively star forming H II galaxies has been observed in the radio continuum and several optical bands. These galaxies are currently undergoing very active star formation and have been selected on the basis of strong radio continuum emission. Most of the galaxies are irregular and have been associated with merger or interaction events

  • Radius Determination of Solar-type Stars Using Asteroseismology: What to Expect from the Kepler Mission
For distant stars, as observed by the NASA Kepler satellite, parallax information is currently of fairly low quality and is not complete. This limits the precision with which the absolute sizes of the stars and their potential transiting planets can be determined by traditional methods. Asteroseismology will be used to aid the radius determination

  • Readout electronics and fast photometry with the Canarias InfraRed Camera Experiment (CIRCE)
We present the design for a high-speed readout imaging mode for the Canarias InfraRed Camera Experiment (CIRCE), a visitor-class near-IR imager, spectrograph, and polarimeter for the 10.4 meter Gran Telescopio Canarias (GTC). This mode, along with the polarimetric and spectroscopic capabilities of the instrument will provide a powerful and unique

  • Real-time lucky imaging in FastCam project
Lucky imaging techniques implemented by the FastCam group (see http://www.iac.es/proyecto/fastcam/) at the Instituto de Astrofisica de Canarias have demonstrated its ability to obtain spectacular diffraction limited images in telescopes ranging from 1 to 4.2 m in visible wavelengths (mainly in the I band), at the expense of using only a small

  • Recent activity of the Be/X-ray binary system SAX J2103.5+4545
Aims: We present a multiwavelength study of the Be/X-ray binary system SAX J2103.5+4545 with the goal of better characterizing the transient behaviour of this source. Methods: SAX J2103.5+4545 was observed by Swift/XRT four times in 2007 from April 25 to May 5, and during quiescence in 2012 August 31. In addition, this source has been monitored

  • Regolith effects in planetary X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy: Laboratory studies at 1.7-6.4 keV
Laboratory measurements are presented to study the effects of the physical properties of regolith on planetary soft X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy. Two laboratory setups are used to independently measure these regolith effects using lunar regolith analog samples with three different particle-size ranges. Discussion is given on the data analysis
