  • Erratum: The VLT-FLAMES survey of massive stars: atmospheric parameters and rotational velocity distributions for B-type stars in the Magellanic Clouds
We correct the estimates of the dispersions in the rotational velocities for early-type stars in our Galaxy (Dufton et al. 2006, A&A, 457, 265) and the Magellanic Clouds (Hunter et al. 2008, A&A, 479, 541). The corrected values are π1/4 (i.e. approximately 33%) larger than those published in the original papers.

  • Erratum: ``Polynomial Approximants for the Calculation of Polarization Profiles in the He I 10830 Å Multiplet'' (ApJS, 160, 312 [2005])
In our published paper there is an error in the order of the rows in Tables 1 through 6. We stated in the paper that the components are sorted in the order of increasing wavelengths in the linear Zeeman splitting (LZS) regime. However, in the published tables the values for the σ+ and σ- components appear reversed. As a result, researchers trying

  • Erratum: ``Small-Scale Behavior of the Physical Conditions and the Abundance Discrepancy in the Orion Nebula'' (ApJ, 675, 389 [2008])
In Table 1 of our original paper we include the coordinates of the centers of the 3.7' long slits obtained in the observations. However, these do not correspond to the centers of the slits drawn in our Figure 1, which represents the extension of the portions of the slits that we finally analyze in the paper (we remove some sections, as indicated in

  • ESO VLT Laser Guide Star Facility
We report in this paper on the design and progress of the ESO Laser Guide Star Facility. The project will create a user facility embedded in UT4, to produce in the Earth's mesosphere laser guide stars, which extend the sky coverage of adaptive optics systems on the VLT UT4 telescope. Embedded into the project are provisions for multiple LGS to cope

  • ESPRESSO: the ultimate rocky exoplanets hunter for the VLT
ESPRESSO, the VLT rocky exoplanets hunter, will combine the efficiency of modern echelle spectrograph with extreme radial-velocity precision. It will be installed at Paranal on ESO's VLT in order to achieve a gain of two magnitudes with respect to its predecessor HARPS, and the instrumental radial-velocity precision will be improved to reach 10 cm
