  • Inelastic e+Mg collision data and its impact on modelling stellar and supernova spectra
Results of calculations for inelastic e+Mg effective collision strengths for the lowest 25 physical states of Mg i (up to 3s6p1P), and thus 300 transitions, from the convergent close-coupling (CCC) and the B-spline R-matrix (BSR) methods are presented. At temperatures of interest, 5000 K, the results of the two calculations differ on average by

  • Influence of Low-Degree High-Order p-Mode Splittings on the Solar Rotation Profile
The solar rotation profile is well constrained down to about 0.25 R &sun; thanks to the study of acoustic modes. Since the radius of the inner turning point of a resonant acoustic mode is inversely proportional to the ratio of its frequency to its degree, only the low-degree p modes reach the core. The higher the order of these modes, the deeper

  • Infrared Light Curves and Absolute Parameters of the Active Binary RT Andromedae
We present the first light curves in the infrared j and K filters, obtained in different runs during 1990, 1991, and 1994. The solutions of these IR light curves together with the previous determinations, gathered from visual light curves and spectroscopic studies, finally yield stellar parameters that can be accepted with confidence. The study of

  • Infrared observations of metal-deficient stars
Infrared magnitudes in the J, H, K and L bands for 64 metal-deficient stars spanning a wide range in effective temperature, luminosity and metal content are presented. An accuracy of 0.02 magnitude is obtained for the JHK bands and 0.03 for the L filter. Infrared-infrared and optical-infrared colour-colour diagrams are discussed and compared with

  • Infrared properties of five spiral galaxies
The radial profiles of five spiral galaxies (NGC 5194, NGC 3627, NGC 3351, NGC 5055, NGC 4736) in the J and K filters of the near infrared are presented. They were taken with the 1.5 m Carlos Sanchez Telescope of the Observatorio del Teide (Tenerife). The infrared photometric parameters of the disk and bulge of NGC 5194 (M51), are calculated. The
