  • IRAS 22568 + 6141 - A new bipolar planetary nebula
The identification of a bipolar planetary nebula is reported with a description of its characteristics. The nebula IRAS 22568 + 6141 has an extension of 8 arcsec, a high extinction of 2.37, and electron temperature and density of 11,500 K and 20,000/cu cm respectively. The distance to the object is estimated at 6 kpc by means of the Shklovskii

  • Iron abundance and dust in galactic H II regions.
The [Fe II] and [Fe III] emission of seven galactic H II regions is studied with the aim of comparing their gaseous Fe abundance. The [Fe II] line intensity ratios are found to behave in a manner that suggests fluorescence effects. In addition, the uncertainty in the physical conditions and the ionization stratification of the layers where [Fe II]

  • Irregular variables of type Lb. New JHKL'M-photometry for 160 stars.
This paper presents new near infrared observations of 160 Irregular variables of type Lb in the JHKL'M filter bands. These measurements are supplemented by data for additional 56 stars taken from the literature. In total 220 datasets are available because of some multiple observations. From our sample, 216 stars have near infrared (NIR) photometry

  • IRS observations of ultraluminous ELAIS galaxies
We propose to use the low spectral resolution capabilities of IRS to obtain high signal-to-noise mid-infrared spectra of a sample of 70 Ultra- and Hyperluminous extragalactic objects at high redshift discovered in the ELAIS survey. The European Large Area ISO Survey (ELAIS) offers the largest complete mid-IR, high-z, high-L extragalactic sample

  • Is the initial mass function of low surface brightness galaxies dominated by low-mass stars?
The rotation curves of low surface brightness (LSB) galaxies suggest that they possess significantly higher mass-to-light (M/L) ratios than their high surface brightness counterparts, indicating that LSB galaxies may be dark matter dominated. This interpretation is hampered by the difficulty of disentangling the disc and dark halo contributions
