The Astrophysics Institute of the Canaries, (IAC) in collaboration with the Museum of Science and the Cosmos, belonging to Museums of Tenerife, is going to stage a re-showing of the puppet play “Do Puppets Dream of the Universe?” which was first very successfully shown in 2012. This activity is part of the popularization programme that the IAC and the Museum are organizing as part of the Weeks of Science and Innovation in the Canaries, organized by the Canary Agency for Research Innovation and the Information Society (ACIISI) of the Government of the Canaries.
This entertaining show- which will be narrated by the IAC researcher Alfred Rosenberg, with script by Rubén Naveros, and the collaboration of Oswaldo González, both of them technical members of the Museum staff- will include the participation of The Root Puppets.
Summary
What would happen if two naughty children, full of cheeky questions, managed to get into a popular talk about the Universe? This is the idea behind the puppet play with the title of “Do Puppets dream of the Universe?”
Ramiro and Estrella, twin brother and sister who are very naughty but clever, sneak into a theatre where a scientific talk about the Universe is being given. With the sympathy of the audience, they make life hard for the lecturer who, reacting to the children´s questions, will need to put on a full series of spectacular experiments, and a great deal of ingenuity to try to satisfy their insatiable curiosity. Will the lecturer be able to complete his talk?
From Tuesday 11th November until Friday 14th the show will be enjoyed by more than one thousand schoolchildren from the 3rd to the 6th class of Obligatory Primary Education who, from all over the island, will come to the Museum for two shows per day. The tickets have been reserved for schools who had already organized their visits to the Museum.
On Sunday 16th November two special session will be on offer for the general public, for children from 8 to 11 years old, at 11.00 and 13.00 o’clock. Tickets can be bought at the Museum ticket office before the start of each session. Seats are strictly limited.
Special tickets have been designed for the occasion, printed on a diffraction grating, so that they can be used in some of the experiments during the show. The children will be able to take them away afterwards as a souvenir, and use them to identify different types of lighting using the decomposition of the light by the gratings. They also contain a 2 dimensional code which refers to the website of the IAC.
