Florian Lennert, Associate Director of the London School of Economics (LSE) and Frank Wenecke, founder of the German Company Dronemasters, have toured the installations of the Headquarters of the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (IAC) in La Laguna to get to know at close quarters the work of the IAC, and its company for technological and commercial cooperation IACTEC.

"The stars and their planets" is the theme chosen for the fourth edition of this training course, designed for school teachers, which will be held from 30th July to 3rd August, at the IAC Headquarters in La Laguna (Tenerife ). Registration is free for Spanish teachers, and will remain open until July 15th or until the places are filled.

Solar physicists from throughout Europe will be meeting this week to discuss the scientific needs of the future European Solar Telescope (EST) whose installation is foreseen in one of the Canary Island Observatories: the Teide Observatory (Izaña, Tenerife) or the Roque de los Muchachos Observatory (Garafía, La Palma).

The Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (IAC) and the University of Oviedo present today the discovery of two new planetary systems, one of them hosting three planets with the same size of the Earth.

The Swiss National Science Foundation (SNF) has awarded one of its prestigious “Synergy Grants” to three European scientists, among them the researcher of the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (IAC) Javier Trujillo Bueno, to join efforts for solving a very complex research problem of Solar Physics.

An international team led by researchers from the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (IAC) and the Universidad de La Laguna (ULL) has cataloged around 200 oscillations of the solar prominences during the first half of 2014. Its development has been possible thanks to the GONG network of telescopes, of which one of them is located in the Teide Observatory.
