  • EMIR: first results of the commissioning at the GTC
We report the results on the EMIR (Espectrógrafo Multiobjeto Infra-Rojo) performances after the first two commissioning periods of the instrument at the Gran Telescopio Canarias (GTC). EMIR is one of the first common user instruments for the GTC, the 10 meter telescope operating at the Roque de los Muchachos Observatory (La Palma, Canary Islands

  • EMCCD calibration for astronomical imaging: Wide FastCam at the Telescopio Carlos Sánchez
The evident benefits of Electron Multiplying CCDs (EMCCDs) -speed, high sensitivity, low noise and their capability of detecting single photon events whilst maintaining high quantum efficiency- are bringing these kinds of detectors to many state-of-the-art astronomical instruments (Velasco et al. 2016; Oscoz et al. 2008). The EMCCDs are the perfect

  • Early-type massive stars in Carina Nebula within the Gaia-ESO Survey.
The Gaia-ESO Survey (GES) is obtaining high quality spectra of ˜ 10^5 stars in our Galaxy, providing an homogeneous and unique overview of all the main components of the Milky Way, its formation history and the evolution of young, mature and ancient Galactic populations. Our group is in charge of the early-type massive stars that define the

  • Dust in the Reionization Era: ALMA Observations of a z = 8.38 Gravitationally Lensed Galaxy
We report on the detailed analysis of a gravitationally lensed Y-band dropout, A2744_YD4, selected from deep Hubble Space Telescope imaging in the Frontier Field cluster Abell 2744. Band 7 observations with the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) indicate the proximate detection of a significant 1 mm continuum flux suggesting the

  • Discovery of XO-6b: A Hot Jupiter Transiting a Fast Rotating F5 Star on an Oblique Orbit
Only a few hot Jupiters are known to orbit around fast rotating stars. These exoplanets are harder to detect and characterize and may be less common than around slow rotators. Here, we report the discovery of the transiting hot Jupiter XO-6b, which orbits a bright, hot, and fast rotating star: V = 10.25, T eff⋆ = 6720 ± 100 K, v sin i ⋆ = 48 ± 3 km

  • Determination of rotation periods of M stars with photometric techniques
This work is part of the project CARMENES (Calar Alto search for high-Resolution M dwarfs With Exoearths With Near-infrared and optical Echelle spectrographs) searching for Earthlike exoplanets in M dwarf stars (Quirrenbach et al. 2014SPIE.9147E..1FQ). Our goal is to characterize the rotation periods of the M-type dwarf stars of CARMENES input
