  • Radial velocity observations of VB10
VB 10 is the smallest star known to harbor a planet according to the recent astrometric study of Pravdo & Shaklan [1]. Here we present near-infrared (J-band) radial velocity of VB 10 performed from high resolution (R~20,000) spectroscopy (NIRSPEC/KECK II). Our results [2] suggest radial velocity variability with amplitude of ~1 km/s, a result that

  • Pulsations in massive stars: effect of the atmosphere on the strange mode pulsations
Recent space observations with CoRoT and ground-based spectroscopy have shown the presence of different types of pulsations in OB stars. These oscillations could be due to acoustic and gravity modes, solar-like oscillations or even other pulsations of large growth rates. We present a first attempt at interpreting the latter as strange modes.

  • Processing Chains for Characterization and Data Analysis of TES X-ray Detectors
The EURECA (EUropean-japanese Calorimeter Array) project was aimed at developing a prototype for an X-ray Imaging detector based on TES (Transition Edge Sensor) technology. The software development group in this project is responsible for the elaboration of a full set of processing chains to characterize the instrument and to process the real data

  • Optical dropout galaxies lensed by the cluster A2667
Context. We investigate the nature and the physical properties of ten z, Y, and J-dropout galaxies selected in the field of the lensing cluster A2667. Aims: This cluster is part of our project aimed at obtaining deep photometry at ~0.8-2.5 microns with ESO/VLT HAWK-I and FORS2 on a representative sample of lensing clusters extracted from our multi

  • On the Way to Graphene: The Bottom-Up Approach to Very Large PAHs Using the Scholl Reaction
The Scholl reaction was adopted to synthesize the very large polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (VLPAHs) hexabenzocoronene (HBC), quaterrylene and dicoronylene as well as their nonalternant isomers. These molecules can be considered subsections of a graphene sheet since the radial diameter of HBC is 13.5 Å and the length of both quaterrylene and
