  • Cool White Dwarfs Found in the UKIRT Infrared Deep Sky Survey
We present the results of a search for cool white dwarfs in the United Kingdom InfraRed Telescope (UKIRT) Infrared Deep Sky Survey (UKIDSS) Large Area Survey (LAS). The UKIDSS LAS photometry was paired with the Sloan Digital Sky Survey to identify cool hydrogen-rich white dwarf candidates by their neutral optical colors and blue near-infrared

  • Constraints on the formation of the globular cluster IC 4499 from multiwavelength photometry
We present new multiband photometry for the Galactic globular cluster IC 4499 extending well past the main-sequence turn-off in the U, B, V, R, I and DDO 51 bands. This photometry is used to determine that IC 4499 has an age of 12 ± 1 Gyr and a cluster reddening of E(B-V) = 0.22 ± 0.02. Hence, IC 4499 is coeval with the majority of Galactic

  • Communicating Astronomy to Special Needs Audiences
Our team has developed a variety of astronomical activities specifically intended for people with special needs. In particular, we have created a series of interactive talks, software with astronomical content, hands-on activities, and a planetarium show, among others, to communicate astronomy to people with different kinds of physical and

  • Chromospheric activities and kinematics for solar type dwarfs and subgiants: analysis of the activity distribution and the AVR
Aims: In this work we present chromospheric activity indices, kinematics, radial-velocities, and rotational velocities for more than 850 FGK-type dwarfs and subgiant stars in the southern hemisphere and test how best to calibrate and measure S-indices from echelle spectra. Methods: We measured our parameters using the high-resolution and high-S/N

  • Characterization of telescope polarization properties across the visible and near-infrared spectrum. Case study: the Dunn Solar Telescope
Accurate astrophysical polarimetry requires a proper characterization of the polarization properties of the telescope and instrumentation employed to obtain the observations. Determining the telescope and instrument Muller matrix is becoming increasingly difficult with the increase in aperture size, precision requirements and instrument complexity
