  • The evolution of early-type galaxies in clusters from z˜ 0.8 to z ˜ 0: the ellipticity distribution and the morphological mix
We present the ellipticity distribution and its evolution for early-type galaxies in clusters from z˜ 0.8 to the current epoch, based on the WIde-field Nearby Galaxy-cluster Survey (0.04 ≤z≤ 0.07) and the ESO Distant Cluster Survey (0.4 ≤z≤ 0.8). We first investigate a mass-limited sample and we find that above a fixed mass limit (M*≥ 1010.2 M&sun

  • Study of stellar populations in the bulges of barred galaxies
Aims: We wish to determine the influence of bars on the building of galaxy bulges through analysis of ages and metallicities derived from stellar absorption line-strength indices. Methods: Long-slit spectroscopy was obtained for a sample of 20 early-type barred galaxies. Line-strength indices were measured and used to derive age and metallicity

  • Stardust-NExT, Deep Impact, and the accelerating spin of 9P/Tempel 1
The evolution of the spin rate of Comet 9P/Tempel 1 through two perihelion passages (in 2000 and 2005) is determined from 1922 Earth-based observations taken over a period of 13 year as part of a World-Wide observing campaign and from 2888 observations taken over a period of 50 days from the Deep Impact spacecraft. We determine the following
