  • HS 0943+1404, a true intermediate polar
We have identified a new intermediate polar, HS 0943+1404, as part of our ongoing search for cataclysmic variables in the Hamburg Quasar Survey. The orbital and white dwarf spin periods determined from time-resolved photometry and spectroscopy are Porb ≃ 250 min and Pspin= 69.171 ± 0.001 min, respectively. The combination of a large ratio Pspin

  • Fast magnetohydrodynamic oscillations in a multifibril Cartesian prominence model
Observations of quiescent filaments show very fine structures which suggests that they can be composed of small-scale threads or fibrils. Two-dimensional, high-resolution observations point out that individual fibrils or groups of fibrils may oscillate independently with their own periods. In this paper, we study the fast magnetohydrodynamic modes

  • Evidence of VLP volcanic tremor in the band [0.2-0.5] Hz at Stromboli volcano, Italy
We analyze time series of Strombolian volcanic tremor recorded with a network of broadband seismic stations. We evidence the occurrence of a significant component of volcanic tremor in the range [0.2-0.5] Hz by using linear and nonlinear methods. The polarization and ZLCC analysis show that the wave field is characterized by high apparent velocity

  • Deep echelle spectrophotometry of S 311, a Galactic HII region located outside the solar circle
We present echelle spectrophotometry of the Galactic HII region S 311. The data have been taken with the Very Large Telescope Ultraviolet-Visual Echelle Spectrograph in the 3100-10400 Årange. We have measured the intensities of 263 emission lines; 178 are permitted lines of H0, D0 (deuterium), He0, C0, C+, N0, N+, O0, O+, S+, Si0, Si+, Ar0 and Fe0

  • Coordinated Multiwavelength Observation of 3C 66A during the WEBT Campaign of 2003-2004
The BL Lac object 3C 66A was the target of an extensive multiwavelength monitoring campaign from 2003 July through 2004 April (with a core campaign from 2003 September to 2003 December) involving observations throughout the electromagnetic spectrum. Radio, infrared, and optical observations were carried out by the WEBT-ENIGMA collaboration. At

  • Chemical Abundances in the Secondary Star of the Neutron Star Binary Centaurus X-4
Using a high-resolution spectrum of the secondary star in the neutron star binary Cen X-4, we have derived the stellar parameters and veiling caused by the accretion disk in a consistent way. We have used a χ2 minimization procedure to explore a grid of 1,500,000 LTE synthetic spectra computed for a plausible range of both stellar and veiling
