  • The Nature of Close Companions of the BL Lacertae Objects 1ES 0502+675 and 1ES 1440+122
We report on deep radio images and optical spectroscopy of two BL Lac objects that have very close compact companions. The two targets, 1ES 0502+675 and 1ES 1440+122, were selected from the Hubble Space Telescope imaging survey of 110 BL Lacs as candidates for possible gravitational lensing. The new observations clearly demonstrate that the

  • The Narrow Line Region of an AGN Sample
Using high-resolution spectra of 8 Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN) observed with INT we found that shapes of narrow emission lines indicate very complex structure of the Narrow Line Region (NLR). We resolved, at least two kinematically separated emission regions: (i) one with narrower lines (~100 km/s) with shift that follows cosmological red-shift of

  • The Line-of-Sight Velocity Distributions of Intracluster Planetary Nebulae in the Virgo Cluster Core
Radial velocities of 40 intracluster planetary nebulae (ICPNs) in the Virgo Cluster were obtained with the new multifiber FLAMES spectrograph on UT2 at the Very Large Telescope. For the first time, the λ4959 line of the [O III] doublet is seen in a large fraction (50%) of ICPNs spectra, and a large fraction of the photometric candidates with m(5007

  • The imaging magnetograph eXperiment for the SUNRISE balloon Antarctica project
The SUNRISE balloon project is a high-resolution mission to study solar magnetic fields able to resolve the critical scale of 100 km in the solar photosphere, or about one photon mean free path. The Imaging Magnetograph eXperiment (IMaX) is one of the three instruments that will fly in the balloon and will receive light from the 1m aperture
