  • Lithium in stars with exoplanets
We present a comparison of the lithium abundances of stars with and without planetary-mass companions. New lithium abundances are reported in 79 planet hosts and 38 stars from a comparison sample. When the Li abundances of planet host stars are compared with the 157 stars in the sample of field stars of Chen et al. (cite{Chen2001}) we find that the

  • Keck spectroscopy and imaging of globular clusters in the lenticular galaxy NGC 524
We have obtained Keck Low-Resolution Imaging Spectrometer imaging and spectra for 29 globular clusters associated with the lenticular galaxy NGC 524. Using the empirical calibration of Brodie & Huchra we find that our spectroscopic sample spans a metallicity range of -2.0

  • Integral field spectroscopy of the gravitational lens HE1104-1805
We present integral field spectroscopy of the double imaged quasar HE1104-1805 taken with the optical fiber system INTEGRAL-WYFFOS at the WHT telescope. From the spectra of the two components we have measured the continuum and line emission ratios, finding an offset between them that can be related to microlensing.

  • INTEGRAL Field Spectroscopy of the Extended Ionized Gas in Arp 220
Integral field optical spectroscopy with the INTEGRAL system has been used to investigate for the first time the two-dimensional kinematic and ionization properties of the extended, warm, ionized gas in Arp 220 over an area of 75.0"×40.0" (i.e., 28×15 kpc). The structure of the ionized gas is divided into well-identified regions associated with the

  • Input parameters of the HV model above Canarian observatories
The possibility of using high-data-rate optical transmitters for satellite communication has generated interest in laser communication systems for ground-to-space and space-to-ground data links. Among the parameters useful to model propagation along a vertical path are the refractive index structure constant Cn2 profile and boundary layer turbulent

  • Infrared mergers and infrared quasi-stellar objects with galactic winds - I. NGC 2623: nuclear outflow in a proto-elliptical candidate
We present the first results of a study of the morphology, kinematics and ionization structure of infrared (IR) mergers/quasi-stellar objects (QSOs) with galactic winds. This study is based mainly on INTEGRAL two-dimensional (2D) fibre spectroscopy [obtained on the 4.2-m William Herschel Telescope (WHT), La Palma] combined with high-resolution
