  • Detection of polarization from the E4Π-A4Π system of FeH in sunspot spectra
We report the first detection of polarization signals induced by the Zeeman Effect in lines of the E4Π-A4Π system of FeH located at 1.6 μm. Motivated by the tentative detection of this band in the intensity spectrum of late-type dwarfs, we have investigated in detail the full Stokes sunspot spectrum in the near-infrared around 1.6 μm, finding

  • Detection of giant planets with the GTC
Detection of objects with masses close to that of Jupiter in various astrophysical contexts will be feasible with GTC first light instruments. The mid-infrared camera, CANARICAM, will contribute to the detection and characterization of these objects orbiting around F-M stars and brown dwarfs. It will allow us to explore a domain of orbital radii

  • Cu and Zn Abundances in Metal Poor Stars
We present Cu and Zn abundances for a sample of 30 stars spanning a metallicity range between solar and [Fe/H]=-3. LTE abundances were obtained using Kurucz model atmospheres and the near UV lines of Cu I 3273.95 and Zn I 3302.58 A observed at high spectral resolution. The trend of [Zn/Fe] vs [Fe/H] is essentially constant over the whole

  • Constraining the Evolution of ZZ Ceti
We report our analysis of the stability of pulsation periods in the DAV star (pulsating hydrogen atmosphere white dwarf) ZZ Ceti, also called R 548. Based on observations that span 31 years, we conclude that the period 213.132605 s observed in ZZ Ceti drifts at a rate dP/dt=1.2 Gyr, comparable to the theoretical cooling timescale for the star.
