  • The temporal spectrum of the sdB pulsating star HS 2201+2610 at 2 ms resolution
In this article we present the results of more than 180 hours of time-series photometry on the low gravity (log g=5.4, Teff=29 300 K, log He/H=-3.0 by number) sdB pulsating star HS 2201+2610, obtained between September 2000 and August 2001. The temporal spectrum is resolved and shows 5 close frequencies: three main signals at 2860.94, 2824.10 and

  • The Properties of Satellite Galaxies in External Systems. I. Morphology and Structural Parameters
We present the first results of an ongoing project to study the morphological, kinematical, dynamical, and chemical properties of satellite galaxies of external giant spiral galaxies. The sample of objects has been selected from the catalog by Zaritsky et al. The paper analyzes the morphology and structural parameters of a subsample of 60 such

  • The mysterious eruption of V838 Mon
V838 Mon is marking one of the most mysterious stellar outbursts on record. The spectral energy distribution of the progenitor resembles an under-luminous F main sequence star (at V=15.6 mag), that erupted into a cool supergiant following a complex and multi-maxima lightcurve (peaking at V=6.7 mag). The outburst spectrum show BaII, LiI and lines of

  • The Anomalous Chromomagnetic Dipole Moment of the Top Quark in Different Frameworks
We give explicit formulae for the anomalous chromomagnetic dipole moment of the top quark in the framework of the standard model, the two higgs doublet model and the minimal supersymmetric standard model. Finally, we compare the results for this coupling with the bound -0.03

  • Spectrophotometry of Procyon A: Testing Metal Opacities
Metal opacity shapes the near-UV spectrum of late-type stars, which dominate intermediate and old stellar populations. Learning the details of how metal opacity blocks the light in this spectral region is of capital importance to understanding the energy balance in the atmosphere of these stars and, ultimately, building reliable models to interpret

  • Spatio-temporal Chaos and Vacuum Fluctuations of Quantized Fields
We consider deterministic chaotic models of vacuum fluctuations on a small (quantum gravity) scale. As a suitable small-scale dynamics, nonlinear versions of strings, so-called `chaotic strings' are introduced. These can be used to provide the `noise' for second quantization of ordinary strings via the Parisi- Wu approach of stochastic quantization
