  • First Results from the ELAIS Deep X-ray Survey
As the epoch of spheroid formation in massive galaxies is believed to correspond to the growth of active nuclei, probing the population of obscured AGN at high redshift is a particularly important capability of deep Chandra and XMM surveys. We present first results of the ELAIS/SCUBA Chandra survey, including optical and IR spectroscopic

  • Fine structure and dynamics in a light bridge inside a solar pore
A photometric analysis of the sub-structure of a granular light bridge in a large solar pore is performed. The data consist of a 66 min time series of white light images (lambda = 5425 Å,+/- 50 Å) of an active region NOAA 7886 obtained at the Swedish Vacuum Solar Telescope on La Palma, Canary Islands. The light bridge can be resolved into an

  • Evidence of optical flares in quiescent SXTs
We present the results of optical fast photometry of five SXTs in quiescence: V404 Cyg, A 0620--00, J 0422+32, GS 2000+25 and Cen X--4 and report the evidence of fast optical variations with timescales from minutes to a few hours and amplitudes from 0.06 to 0.6 mag, superimposed on the classical ellipsoidal light curve. We find no coherent

  • ELAIS Hα emitting galaxies (Pascual+, 2001)
We have carried out a survey searching for Hα emitting galaxies at z~0.24 using a narrow band filter tuned with the redshifted line. The total sky area covered was 0.19 square degrees within the redshift range 0.228 to 0.255 in a set of four fields in the ELAIS-N1 zone. This corresponds to a volume of 9.8x103Mpc3 and a look-back time of 3.6Gyr when

  • Eddington's planet finding capabilities
The capabilities of Eddington for the detection and analysis of extrasolar planets are outlined. The primary goal of the PF (Planet finding) part of the mission is the detection of planets that are Earth like - which limits their size to less then 3 Earth radii - and which are potentially habitable - which limits their temperature or their orbital
