  • Modelling gaseous and stellar kinematics in the disc galaxies NGC 772, 3898 and 7782
We present V-band surface photometry and major-axis kinematics of stars and ionized gas of three early-type spiral galaxies, namely NGC 772, 3898 and 7782. For each galaxy we present a self-consistent Jeans model for the stellar kinematics, adopting the light distribution of bulge and disc derived by means of a two-dimensional parametric

  • Low-Degree Low-Order Solar p Modes As Seen By GOLF On board SOHO
Data recovered from the GOLF experiment on board the ESA/NASA SOHO spacecraft have been used to analyze the low-order low-degree solar velocity acoustic-mode spectrum below ν=1.5 mHz (i.e., 1

  • Intercomparison of SOUP, ASP, LPSP, and MDI magnetograms
We compare simultaneous magnetograms of a solar active region taken by the Advanced Stokes Polarimeter (ASP) and the Solar Optical Universal Polimeter (SOUP) in 1998. In addition we compare magnetograms taken by the La Palma Stokes Polarimeter (LPSP), the Michelson Doppler Imager (MDI) on SOHO, and the SOUP instrument in 2000. The SOUP instrument

  • Hubble Space Telescope-NICMOS Observations of M31'S Metal-Rich Globular Clusters and Their Surrounding Fields. II. Results
We have obtained HST-NICMOS observations of five of M31's most metal-rich globular clusters: G1, G170, G174, G177, and G280. For the two clusters farthest from the nucleus, G1 and G280, we statistically subtract the field population and estimate metallicities using K-(J-K) color-magnitude diagrams (CMDs). Based on the slopes of their infrared giant

  • Hubble Space Telescope-NICMOS Observations of M31'S Metal-Rich Globular Clusters and Their Surrounding Fields. I. Techniques
Astronomers are always anxious to push their observations to the limit-basing results on objects at the detection threshold, spectral features barely stronger than the noise, or photometry in very crowded regions. In this paper we present a careful analysis of photometry in crowded regions and show how image blending affects the results and

  • High Resolution Observations of a Photospheric Light Bridge
We analyzed a 66 min time series of spatially highly resolved white light images to study the dynamics of photospheric light bridges which we assumed to be a restoration of the quiet surface inside sunspots. Similar decaying mechanisms were found as for normal photospheric dynamics for granulation.
