  • Density and Excitation Mapping of M2-9
We have acquired imaging of the bipolar outflow M2-9 in the transitions [O III] λ5007, H I λ6563, [N II] λ6584, and [S II] λλ6717, 6731. As a result, we are able to map both excitation and density over the face of the nebula. We find that underlying densities in the lobes increase to ne~1.6x103 cm-3 at distances rp~12"-15" from the central star

  • Density waves and star formation in grand-design spirals
Context. H II regions in the arms of spiral galaxies are indicators of recent star-forming processes. They may have been caused by the passage of the density wave or simply been created by other means near the arms. The study of these regions may give us clues to clarify the controversy about the existence of a triggering scenario, as proposed in

  • Design concepts for the Cherenkov Telescope Array CTA: an advanced facility for ground-based high-energy gamma-ray astronomy
Ground-based gamma-ray astronomy has had a major breakthrough with the impressive results obtained using systems of imaging atmospheric Cherenkov telescopes. Ground-based gamma-ray astronomy has a huge potential in astrophysics, particle physics and cosmology. CTA is an international initiative to build the next generation instrument, with a factor

  • Detection of Anomalous Microwave Emission in the Pleiades Reflection Nebula with Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe and the COSMOSOMAS Experiment
We present evidence for anomalous microwave emission (AME) in the Pleiades reflection nebula, using data from the seven-year release of the Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe and from the COSMOSOMAS (Cosmological Structures on Medium Angular Scales) experiment. The flux integrated in a 1° radius around R.A. = 56fdg24, decl. = 23fdg78 (J2000) is 2

  • Detection of Extended Optical Emission Associated with the Northern Radio Hot SPOT of 3C 390.3
We present deep V, R, and I broadband CCD images of the northern radio lobe associated with the radio galaxy 3C 390.3. Spatially resolved emission coincident with the brightest region of the northern lobe (hot spot B) is detected in all filters, with surface brightness V=24.6 mag arcsec ^{-2} and V-I color ~ 0.8. The new optical data, together with

  • Detection of optical linear polarization in the SN 2006aj/XRF 060218 non-spherical expansion
Aims.We have performed optical polarimetric observations of the SN 2006aj associated to the X-ray flash (XRF) of February 18, 2006, XRF 060218 that provide information on its expansion geometry. Methods: .The data were acquired in the R-band with the 0.7 m telescope of Crimea, 2.5 m Nordic Optical Telescope and the 2.2 m of Calar Alto. Results: .We
