  • The magnetic field in the convection zone as a link between the active regions on the surface and the field in the solar interior
Recent developments in the theory of the rise of magnetic flux from the bottom of the convection zone to the surface to produce active regions are reviewed. These include the explanation for the observed tilt angle of the main magnetic axis of the active region as well as for some of the asymmetries between the preceding and follower polarities. It

  • The light curve of OJ 287.
During the OJ-94 campaign for the blazar OJ 287 the authors have obtained the best ever observed optical light curve for any extragalactic object. They have monitored this blazar since fall 1993 and have collected over 2000 optical photometric observations. The light curve shows continuous activity down to timescales of tens of minutes, with

  • The light curve of 3C 66A.
During the OJ-94 campaign one monitored the blazar 3C 66A as a secondary target. Here the authors present the observed V-band light curve. This blazar was in outburst during the monitoring campaign, reaching V-magnitude 13.7. This is the brightest it has ever been observed. The light curve shows continuous activity in time scales from tens of
