  • Shocks in the Quiet Solar Photosphere: A Rather Common Occurrence
We present observations of the quiet solar photosphere in the Fe I lines at 6302 Å where at least four different spatial locations exhibit upward-directed supersonic flows. These upflows can only be detected in the circular polarization profiles as a double-peaked structure in the blue lobe of both Fe I lines. We have detected cases of either

  • Radial velocities in 4 globular clusters (Recio-Blanco+, 2004)
We present radial and rotation velocity measurements from UVES+VLT high resolution spectra of 61 stars in the blue horizontal branches (HB) of the Galactic globular clusters NGC 1904 (M 79), NGC 2808, NGC 6093 (M 80) and NGC 7078 (M 15). ************************************************************************** * * * Sorry, but the author(s) never

  • Radial Age and Metal Abundance Gradients in the Stellar Content of M32
We present long-slit spectroscopy of the elliptical galaxy M32, obtained with the 8 m Subaru telescope at Mauna Kea, the 1.5 m Tillinghast telescope at the F. L. Whipple Observatory, and the 4 m Mayall telescope at the Kitt Peak National Observatory. The spectra cover the Lick index red spectral region, as well as higher order Balmer lines in the

  • Possible satellite perspective effects on the reported correlations between solar activity and clouds
Recently some correlations between low cloud cover and solar activity have been reported in the literature. In this paper we show how the flux of GCR is found to correlate positively with the low clouds and negatively with higher clouds, supporting previous theoretical predictions linking atmospheric ionization by cosmic rays and cloud cover at

  • Physical Properties of Spicules from Simultaneous Spectropolarimetric Observations of He I and Ca II Lines
We present full Stokes observations from SPINOR (Spectro-Polarimeter for INfrared and Optical Regions, at the Dunn Solar Telescope) in the Ca II infrared triplet and the He I multiplet at 1083 nm from which some properties of spicules have been derived. There are important advantages in multiline observations, particularly from different elements
