  • The quiescent optical light curve of XTE J2123-058
We present optical photometry of the X-ray transient XTE J2123-058 during its quiescent state taken in 1999 and 2000. We fit the R-band light curves with a model which requires the ellipsoidal modulation and X-ray heating of the Roche-lobe filling secondary star, and an accretion disc bulge, i.e. where the gas stream impacts the accretion disc. • The gravitational torque of bars in optically unbarred and barred galaxies
The relative bar torques for 45 galaxies observed at K-band with the 4.2 m William Herschel Telescope are determined by transforming the light distributions into potentials and deriving the maximum ratios of the tangential forces relative to the radial forces. The results are combined with the bar torques for 30 other galaxies determined from our

  • The Cygnus X region: a nucleosynthesis laboratory for INTEGRAL
The detection of 1.809 MeV gamma-ray line emission from the Cygnus X complex by the COMPTEL telescope is one of the most convincing proves of massive star nucleosynthesis in our Galaxy. The Cygnus X complex is an extremely active nearby region, containing several star forming regions, OB associations and young open star clusters. It houses some of

  • Solar encounter
The prime objectives of the workshop were to: inform the community about the science opportunities of the Solar Orbiter mission; to provide a forum for sharpening and focussing the science goals; allow the hardware groups and instrument proposers to critically review the payload; establish international contacts and collaborations.
