  • Incompressibility of hot nuclear matter, general relativistic stellar collapse and shock propagation
Research was carried out on the effect of considering two extreme kinds of Skyrme-type nuclear interactions on the outcome of stellar core collapsing models. Particular attention was given to dissociation effects generated by the shock. Neutrinos transport is included via a multigroup trapping scheme.

  • The evolution of a supernova remnant in a strongly magnetized interstellar medium
Several aspects of the evolution of an SNR into a low-beta ISM are investigated. The presence of a strong magnetic field in the unperturbed ISM is found to have a profound effect on the structure and evolutionary pattern of an SNR embedded in it. If the field strength is high enough for the outgoing shock to be weak, then most of the explosion

  • SN 1988A in M58 - Departure from Co-56 decay 700 days after explosion
Observations of SN 1988A in M58 are presented which show a remarkable departure from Co-56 decay in the optical light curve starting about 700 days since explosion. It is shown that the departure cannot be explained by the contribution from other radioactive isotopes to the late luminosity, and fluorescence in nearby clouds can be excluded as the

  • Particle acceleration near X-type magnetic neutral lines
The behavior of charged particles near X-type magnetic neutral lines is investigated. The magnetic field is taken to be hyperbolic and time stationary, with a uniform electric field perpendicular to the magnetic field. The general properties of the orbits of noninteracting particles in that field geometry are examined. Approximate analytic
