  • Three Super-Earths Transiting the Nearby Star GJ 9827
We report on the discovery of three transiting planets around GJ 9827. The planets have radii of 1.75 ± 0.18, 1.36 ± 0.14, and {2.11}-0.21+0.22 R ⊕, and periods of 1.20896, 3.6480, and 6.2014 days, respectively. The detection was made in Campaign 12 observations as part of our K2 survey of nearby stars. GJ 9827 is a V = 10.39 mag K6V star at a

  • Three-Dimensional Radiative Transfer Modeling of the Scattering Polarization in MgH Lines
Analysis of the Hanle effect in solar molecular lines allows us to obtain empirical information on hidden, mixed-polarity magnetic fields at subresolution scales in the (granular) upflowing regions of the `quiet' solar photosphere. Here we report that collisions seem to be very efficient in depolarizing the rotational levels of MgH lines. This has

  • Tidal Streams around External Galaxies
We have the unique opportunity to observe and model nearby streams around the two large Local Group spirals Milky Way and M31 in great detail. However, the detection of streams around other external galaxies is required to verify the general application of the derived results. We give a short summary of streams around other galaxies known in the

  • Time Series of Solar Granulation Images. III. Dynamics of Exploding Granules and Related Phenomena
The evolution of exploding granules is studied by using a spatially as well as temporally highly resolved time series of white-light images of 80 minute duration. The results of this study show that the dynamics of exploding granules is strongly affected by their surroundings and that their appearance is closely related to the mesogranular flow
