  • Photoionized Herbig-Haro objects in the Orion Nebula through deep high-spectral resolution spectroscopy - III. HH 514
We analyse the physical conditions and chemical composition of the photoionized Herbig-Haro object HH 514, which emerges from the protoplanetary disc (proplyd) 170-337 in the core of the Orion Nebula. We use high-spectral resolution spectroscopy from Ultraviolet and Visual Echelle Spectrograph at the Very Large Telescope and IFU-spectra from MEGARA

  • Probing for the host galaxies of the fast X-ray transients XRT 000519 and XRT 110103
Over the past few years, ~30 extragalactic fast X-ray transients (FXRTs) have been discovered, mainly in Chandra and XMM-Newton data. Their nature remains unclear, with proposed origins, including a double neutron star merger, a tidal disruption event involving an intermediate-mass black hole and a white dwarf, or a supernova shock breakout. • A new and Homogeneous metallicity scale for Galactic classical Cepheids. II. Abundance of iron and α elements
Context. Classical Cepheids are the most popular distance indicators and tracers of young stellar populations. The key advantage is that they are bright and they can be easily identified in Local Group and Local Volume galaxies. Their evolutionary and pulsation properties depend on their chemical abundances. Aims: The main aim of this investigation

  • A Tentative 114 minute Orbital Period Challenges the Ultracompact Nature of the X-Ray Binary 4U 1812-12
We present a detailed time-resolved photometric study of the ultracompact X-ray binary candidate 4U 1812-12. The multicolor light curves obtained with HiPERCAM on the 10.4 m Gran Telescopio Canarias show a ≃114 minute modulation similar to a superhump. Under this interpretation, this period should lie very close to the orbital period of the system

  • Apophis Planetary Defense Campaign
We describe results of a planetary defense exercise conducted during the close approach to Earth by the near-Earth asteroid (99942) Apophis during 2020 December-2021 March. The planetary defense community has been conducting observational campaigns since 2017 to test the operational readiness of the global planetary defense capabilities. These
