  • Kepler observations of Am stars
We present an analysis of high-resolution spectra for two pulsating Am stars in the Kepler field. The stellar parameters derived in this way are important because parameters derived from narrow-band photometry may be affected by the strong metal lines in these stars. We analyse the Kepler time series of ten known Am stars and find that six of them

  • Insight into the Formation of the Milky Way through Cold Halo Substructure. II. The Elemental Abundances of ECHOS
We determine the average metallicities of the elements of cold halo substructure (ECHOS) that we previously identified in the inner halo of the Milky Way within 17.5 kpc of the Sun. As a population, we find that stars kinematically associated with ECHOS are chemically distinct from the background kinematically smooth inner halo stellar population

  • Inner disc rearrangement revealed by dramatic brightness variations in the young star PV Cep
Young Sun-like stars at the beginning of the pre-main-sequence (PMS) evolution are surrounded by accretion discs and remnant protostellar envelopes. Photometric and spectroscopic variations of these stars are driven by interactions of the star with the disc. Time-scales and wavelength dependence of the variability carry information on the physical

  • In search of cosmic order: Astronomy and culture in Ancient Egypt
Over the past five years, the Egyptian-Spanish Mission on the archaeoastronomy of ancient Egypt and its collaborators has been performing an ambitious scientific project with the aim of studying the cosmovision of the ancient civilization of the pharaohs. Part of the project has consisted of a re-analysis of the iconographic and historical sources

  • Hubble Space Telescope study of resolved red giant stars in the outer halos of nearby dwarf starburst galaxies
Context. Central starbursts in galaxies are an extreme example of ongoing galaxy evolution. The outer parts of galaxies contain a fossil record of galaxy formation and evolution processes in the more distant past. The characterization of resolved stellar populations allows one a detailed study of these topics. Aims: We observed the outer parts of
