Descripción
The most prominent feature in the interestellar medium extinction curve
is the UV bump at 217.5 nm. The carrier of this band has been
frequently associated to some form of carbonaceus material but there
is no definitive conclusion on the ultimate responsible of the band. The
increase in the extinction at higher energies and the existence of many
much weaker diffuse interestellar bands in the optical of unknown
origin are also some of the intriguing observational properties of the
interestellar material. Recently it has been claimed the detection of
fullerenes with 60-240 carbon atoms in the Allende meteorite. This is
the first direct indication that fulleranes were present in the
presolar nebula and strongly support previous suggestions that
fullerenes may exist in the interestellar medium. In this talk or poster
present the results of my thesis (2003): a theoretical model of the
photoabsorption spectra of fullerenes and buckyonions and a study the
possible contribution of these molecules to the interestellar
extintion. Their spectra are compare the features of these spectra with
some of the observational properties of interestellar extintion.
