  • Discovery of wide low and very low-mass binary systems using Virtual Observatory tools
The frequency of multiple systems and their properties are key constraints of stellar formation and evolution. Formation mechanisms of very low-mass (VLM) objects are still under considerable debate, and an accurate assessment of their multiplicity and orbital properties is essential for constraining current theoretical models. Taking advantage of

  • Discovery of Scattering Polarization in the Hydrogen Lyα Line of the Solar Disk Radiation
There is a thin transition region (TR) in the solar atmosphere where the temperature rises from 10,000 K in the chromosphere to millions of degrees in the corona. Little is known about the mechanisms that dominate this enigmatic region other than the magnetic field plays a key role. The magnetism of the TR can only be detected by polarimetric

  • Charged-particle nuclear modification factors in PbPb and pPb collisions at √{s_{NN}}=5.02 TeV
The spectra of charged particles produced within the pseudorapidity window | η| 1 at √{s_{NN}}=5.02 TeV are measured using 404 μb-1 of PbPb and 27.4 pb-1 of pp data collected by the CMS detector at the LHC in 2015. The spectra are presented over the transverse momentum ranges spanning 0 .5 p T 400 GeV in pp and 0 .7 p T 400 GeV in PbPb

  • APOGEE chemical abundances of globular cluster giants in the inner Galaxy
We report chemical abundances obtained by Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS)-III/Apache Point Observatory Galactic Evolution Experiment for giant stars in five globular clusters located within 2.2 kpc of the Galactic Centre. We detect the presence of multiple stellar populations in four of those clusters (NGC 6553, NGC 6528, Terzan 5 and Palomar 6)

  • A temperate rocky super-Earth transiting a nearby cool star
M dwarf stars, which have masses less than 60 per cent that of the Sun, make up 75 per cent of the population of the stars in the Galaxy. The atmospheres of orbiting Earth-sized planets are observationally accessible via transmission spectroscopy when the planets pass in front of these stars. Statistical results suggest that the nearest transiting
