  • Formation and Evolution of a Multi-Threaded Prominence with Different Heating Scenarios
Solar prominences are cool and dense plasma suspended in the million-degree solar corona. Recent observations reveal that prominences are composed of fine and highly dynamic threads aligned with the local magnetic field. We have constructed a 3D time-dependent model of a prominence combining a magnetic field structure with 1D independent

  • Forbush decreases, solar irradiance variations, and anomalous cloud changes
Changes in the galactic cosmic ray (GCR) flux due to variations in solar activity may provide an indirect connection between the Sun's and the Earth's climates. Epoch superpositional (composite) analyses of high-magnitude GCR fluctuations, known as Forbush decrease (FD) events, have been widely used to test this hypothesis, with varied results

  • Fluctuations in some climate parameters
There is argument as to the extent to which there has been an increase over the past few decades in the frequency of the extremes of climatic parameters, such as temperature, storminess, precipitation, etc, an obvious point being that Global Warming might be responsible. Here we report results on those parameters of which we have had experience

  • First Steps toward Seismic Holography of the Tachocline
The solar dynamo is thought to be generated at the tachocline and the deepest layers of the convection zone. Yet much about these layers or how this mechanism works remains unknown. In this work we present the first of a series of steps in order to apply helioseismic holography to the study of the tachocline. Traditionally a plane-parallel

  • Evidence of a Distinct Stellar Population in the Counterrotating Core of NGC 1700
We find a distinct stellar population in the counterrotating and kinematically decoupled core of the isolated massive elliptical galaxy NGC 1700. Coinciding with the edge of this core, we find a significant change in the slope of the gradient of various representative absorption line indices. Our age estimate for this core is markedly younger than
