  • Astronomical site ranking based on tropospheric wind statistics
High-altitude wind speeds have been adopted as a parameter for astronomical site selection based on the relationship found at the Paranal and Cerro Pachón sites between the average velocity of the turbulence (V0) and winds at the 200-mbar pressure level (V200). Although this relationship has not been checked at any other site in the world and a

  • Abundances of BHB stars in NGC 1904 (Fabbian+, 2005)
The abundance measurements are based on high-resolution optical spectroscopical data, obtained during 2 observing runs with the Ultraviolet and Visual Echelle Spectrograph mounted on Kueyen (Very Large Telescope UT2). Ten target stars in the extended blue horizontal branch of the Galactic globular cluster NGC 1904 (M79) have been analysed. (2 data

  • A Three-dimensional Study of Reconnection, Current Sheets, and Jets Resulting from Magnetic Flux Emergence in the Sun
We present the results of a set of three-dimensional numerical simulations of magnetic flux emergence from below the photosphere and into the corona. The corona includes a uniform and horizontal magnetic field as a model for a preexisting large-scale coronal magnetic system. Cases with different relative orientations of the upcoming and coronal

  • A Possible Third Component in the L Dwarf Binary System DENIS-P J020529.0-115925 Discovered with the Hubble Space Telescope
We present results showing that the multiple system DENIS-P J020529.0-115925 is likely to be a triple system of very low mass stars and brown dwarfs. The secondary of this previously known binary system shows a clear elongation on six images obtained at six different epochs. Significant residuals remain after point-spread function (PSF) subtraction

  • A New Scenario for the Formation of Massive Stellar Clusters
A new scenario is proposed in which the continuous creation of stars results into a highly concentrated massive (globular cluster-like) stellar system. We show that under very general conditions a large-scale gravitational instability in the ISM that triggers the collapse of a massive cloud leads with the aid of newly-formed stars to a standing
