  • Dust properties at redshift >0
Dust is present everywhere in the Universe. Dust absorbs and scatters light dimming the astrophysical sources. Precise measurements of the attenuation dependence with wavelength (extinction curve) have been based in the comparison of spectra from pairs of identical stars suffering different amount of extinction. The study of dust extinction is

  • Dust Distribution in the Milky Way
A three-dimensional model of the dust distribution in the Milky Way is presented based on FIR observations made by the COBE satellite. This model is a further development of that first presented by Drimmel & Spergel (2001). Here the molecular ring has been added, which shows evidence of ellipticity, as well as a central hole in the disk

  • Detection of the 2175Å extinction feature in a lens galaxy at z = 0.83
We determine the extinction curve in the zl = 0.83 lens galaxy of the gravitational lens SBS 0909+532 from the wavelength dependence of the flux ratio between the lensed quasar images (zs = 1.38) from 3400 to 9200Å. It is the first measurement of an extinction curve at a cosmological distance of comparable quality to those obtained within the

  • Detection of polarization from the E4Π-A4Π system of FeH in sunspot spectra
We report the first detection of polarization signals induced by the Zeeman Effect in lines of the E4Π-A4Π system of FeH located at 1.6 μm. Motivated by the tentative detection of this band in the intensity spectrum of late-type dwarfs, we have investigated in detail the full Stokes sunspot spectrum in the near-infrared around 1.6 μm, finding
