  • An empirical colour-T(eff) calibration for G and K dwarf and subdwarf stars
Infrared observations are used to obtain effective temperatures with a 3-percent error for a sample of low main-sequence stars. The empirical calibration of Arribas and Martinez Roger (1988) is found to be valid except for the lowest metallicities and for effective temperatures of lower than 5000 K, and to predict exceedingly blue colors for solar

  • The nature of the cometary nebula 1548 C27
Results are presented on optical and near-IR photometry of cometary nebula 1548 C27, together with associated high and intermediate resolution spectroscopy of both the nebular core and jet outflow. Two IR sources were found, one of which, IRS 2, is clearly a reddened main-sequence star, the other, IRS 1, being a probable Herbig Ae/Be type central

  • The influence of relativistic kinematics on the asymmetry of spectral line profiles and the observed asymmetries in AGN's
The influence of general relativistic effects on spectral line profiles is studied. Some peculiarities observed in the profiles of broad lines of AGNs, like the global redshift of the line and simultaneous blueshift of the peak of the profile with respect to the reference system of the narrow lines, are obtainable if the source region is rotating

  • Near-infrared survey of IRAS sources with colours like planetary nebulae
Near-IR photometry of 38 objects associated with unidentified IRAS PSC sources, which have colors in the FIR similar to those of planetary nebulae are presented. From their IR flux distribution, from their low-resolution IR spectra and from their position in the near-IR color-color diagrams, their precise nature is identified. They fall in

  • The 160 minute solar oscillation - an artifact?
Analysis of data obtained over the years 1980-1985 are analyzed to show that the period of the 160-minute signal is indeed 160.00 minutes. It is demonstrated that this signal may be simulated by a slightly distorted diurnal sine wave such as that occasioned by differential atmospheric extinction.
