  • Ambipolar diffusion: Self-similar solutions and MHD code testing. Cylindrical symmetry
Context. Ambipolar diffusion is a process occurring in partially ionised astrophysical systems that imparts a complicated mathematical and physical nature to Ohm's law. The numerical codes that solve the magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) equations have to be able to deal with the singularities that are naturally created in the system by the ambipolar

  • About Metallicity Variations in the Local Galactic Interstellar Medium
In this paper we discuss and confront recent results on metallicity variations in the local interstellar medium, obtained from observations of H II regions and neutral clouds of the Galactic thin disk, and compare them with recent high-quality metallicity determinations of other tracers of the chemical composition of the interstellar medium as B

  • A study of flares in the ultra-cool regime from SPECULOOS-South
We present a study of photometric flares on 154 low-mass (≤0.2 M ⊙) objects observed by the SPECULOOS-South Observatory from 2018 June 1 to 2020 March 23. In this sample, we identify 85 flaring objects, ranging in spectral type from M4 to L0. We detect 234 flares in this sample, with energies between 10 29.2 and 10 32.7 erg, using both automated

  • A short-period sub-Earth orbiting Proxima Centauri
The discovery of a planetary candidate orbiting the habitable zone of our closest neighbor, Proxima Centauri (Gl 551), shook the planetary community as few other discoveries have done in recent years. It not only showed that the nearest star to the Sun could host a planetary system but also that, given the right conditions, it could host a

  • A Multiwavelength Study of GRS 1716-249 in Outburst: Constraints on Its System Parameters
We present a detailed study of the evolution of the Galactic black hole transient GRS 1716-249 during its 2016-2017 outburst at optical (Las Cumbres Observatory), mid-infrared (Very Large Telescope), near-infrared (Rapid Eye Mount telescope), and ultraviolet (the Neil Gehrels Swift Observatory Ultraviolet/Optical Telescope) wavelengths, along with
