  • Quantifying radial migration in the Milky Way: inefficient over short time-scales but essential to the very outer disc beyond 15 kpc
Stellar radial migration plays an important role in reshaping a galaxy's structure and the radial distribution of stellar population properties. In this work, we revisit reported observational evidence for radial migration and quantify its strength using the age-[Fe/H] distribution of stars across the Milky Way with APOGEE data. We find a broken

  • Proton acceleration in thermonuclear nova explosions revealed by gamma rays
Classical novae are cataclysmic binary star systems in which the matter of a companion star is accreted on a white dwarf 1,2. Accumulation of hydrogen in a layer eventually causes a thermonuclear explosion on the surface of the white dwarf 3, brightening the white dwarf to ~10 5 solar luminosities and triggering ejection of the accumulated matter

  • Probing into emission mechanisms of GRB 190530A using time-resolved spectra and polarization studies: synchrotron origin?
Multipulsed GRB 190530A, detected by the Gamma-ray Burst Monitor (GBM) and Large Area Telescope onboard Fermi, is the sixth most fluent GBM burst detected so far. This paper presents the timing, spectral, and polarimetric analysis of the prompt emission observed using AstroSat and Fermi to provide insight into the prompt emission radiation

  • Post maximum light and late time optical imaging polarimetry of type I superluminous supernova 2020znr
Optical imaging polarimetry was conducted on the hydrogen poor superluminous supernova 2020znr during three phases after maximum light (≍ +34 d, +288 d, and +289 d). After instrumental and interstellar polarization correction, all measurements are consistent with null-polarization detection. Modelling the light curve with a magnetar spin-down model

  • Polarization angle requirements for CMB B-mode experiments. Application to the LiteBIRD satellite
A methodology to provide the polarization angle requirements for different sets of detectors, at a given frequency of a CMB polarization experiment, is presented. The uncertainties in the polarization angle of each detector set are related to a given bias on the tensor-to-scalar ratio r parameter. The approach is grounded in using a linear

  • Planet Hunters TESS IV: a massive, compact hierarchical triple star system TIC 470710327
We report the discovery and analysis of a massive, compact, hierarchical triple system (TIC 470710327) initially identified by citizen scientists in data obtained by NASA's Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS). Spectroscopic follow-up observations obtained with the HERMES spectrograph, combined with eclipse-timing variations (ETVs), confirm
