  • A Novel Method to Constrain Tidal Quality Factor from A Nonsynchronized Exoplanetary System
We propose a novel method to constrain the tidal quality factor, , from an observed nonsynchronized star–planet system consisting of a slowly rotating low-mass star and a close-in Jovian planet, taking into account the coevolution of stellar spin and planetary orbit due to the tidal interaction and the magnetic braking. On the basis of dynamical

  • A new perspective on the stellar mass-metallicity relation of quiescent galaxies from the LEGA-C survey
We investigated the stellar mass-metallicity relation (MZR) using a sample of 637 quiescent galaxies with 10.4 ≤ log(M */M ⊙) < 11.7 selected from the LEGA-C survey at 0.6 ≤ z ≤ 1. We derived mass-weighted stellar metallicities using full-spectral fitting. We find that while lower-mass galaxies are both metal-rich and metal-poor, there are no metal

  • A detailed study of the very high-energy Crab pulsar emission with the LST-1
Context. To date, three pulsars have been firmly detected by imaging atmospheric Cherenkov telescopes (IACTs). Two of them reached the TeV energy range, challenging models of very high-energy (VHE) emission in pulsars. More precise observations are needed to better characterize pulsar emission at these energies. The LST-1 is the prototype of the

  • A biconical ionised gas outflow and evidence of positive feedback in NGC 7172 uncovered by MIRI/JWST
We present observations of the type-2 Seyfert NGC 7172 obtained with the medium-resolution spectrometer (MRS) of the Mid-Infrared Instrument (MIRI) on board the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST). This galaxy hosts one of the lowest ionised gas mass outflow rates (Ṁ out ∼ 0.005 M ⊙ yr ‑1) in a sample of six active galactic nuclei (AGN) with similar

  • X-Shooting ULLYSES: Massive stars at low metallicity: V. Effect of metallicity on surface abundances of O stars
Context. Massive stars rotate faster, on average, than lower mass stars. Stellar rotation triggers hydrodynamical instabilities which transport angular momentum and chemical species from the core to the surface. Models of high-mass stars that include these processes predict that chemical mixing is stronger at lower metallicity. Aims. We aim to test

  • X-Shooting ULLYSES: Massive stars at low metallicity: IV. Spectral analysis methods and exemplary results for O stars
Context. The spectral analysis of hot, massive stars is a fundamental astrophysical method of determining their intrinsic properties and feedback. With their inherent, radiation-driven winds, the quantitative spectroscopy for hot, massive stars requires detailed numerical modeling of the atmosphere and an iterative treatment in order to obtain the
